Federal Science and Technical College, Uromi, is one of the special Federal Unity Colleges established by the Federal Government to assist in the training of young Nigerians to raise the critically needed manpower of the country in the area of Science and Technology. It is a three School-in-one College in the sense that it offers courses at the level of Basic Education (Junior Secondary School), Senior Secondary School (Technical) and Senior Secondary School (Science). Each School spans over a minimum period of three years leading to the award of the following certificates:
This is awarded to Basic School graduates after the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) by the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO). This can be used to
secure admission into the Senior Secondary if the child is aspiring to study Arts and other related courses in the future in which case he/she would
have to secure admission into a conventional Secondary School, All other students aspiring to study Technical/Science courses are retained and streamed into the various areas of intended future discipline/profession by the College.
his is awarded to the Senior Secondary
(Technical) students by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). The Technical students also take a Trade Test Certificate for their Professional certification and Federal Craft Certificate.
West African Senior Secondary Certificate: This is awarded to both the Technical and Science students by the West African Examinations Council.
NECO: Science students are presented to the National Examinations Council of Nigeria for the National Senior School Certificate Examination.
The reason for two examinations for each (Technical or Science) student is to ensure that they qualify for the next level of education without loosing the year of graduation.
In the Junior Secondary School (JSS1 to JSS3), the College emphasizes the basic skills in the following subjects:
In the first year of the Senior Secondary School (SS1), all students do a maximum of 12 and a minimum of 10 subjects. The following table lists subjects offered and possible option groups in the Senior Secondary School:

Students admitted into the College at the Senior Secondary (Technical) level are expected to belong to any of the following trades:
1. Bricklaying, Block laying and Concreting (BBC),
Book-Keeping and Secretarial Studies (BKK/SS),
2. Furniture Making (FM),
3. Welding and Fabrication. (WF)
4. Catering Craft Practice (CCP),
5. Computer Craft Studies (CCS)
Electrical
6.Installation and Maintenance Works (EIM).
7. Radio Television and Electronic Work (RTV)
Federal Science and Technical College, Uromi was established in 1999 alongside two other colleges, one in Tungbo, Bayelsa State and the other in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
Credit must be given to Mr. Ibebunjo, an Ibo philanthropist, who established a Skills Acquisition/Trade Centre in 1963 and handed it over to his church, the Baptist, before leaving Uromi for his home town at the outbreak of the Nigeria Civil War, 1967-1970.
